1032-447728.jpgNumerous studies have shown that lonely people die earlier, get sick more often and have more difficulty with transitions than those who have a support network of friends and family.  Researchers have found that friendships affect the physical and mental health of both men and women.  Feeling isolated and not accepted by others can lead to loneliness, alienation, and depression.  This doesn’t mean we need people around us all of the time, but we need to have the assurance that the support system is there if we need it.

That’s how I feel about my nutritional scale.  I know I’m overweight and need to eat healthy food in moderate portions.  If my scale is in the kitchen, I can be assured that I can measure my food portions before placing the food on my plate.  Then I can empty my plate without overeating.  That gives me a great feeling of satisfaction because my mom always said, “Empty your plate.”  My emotional health suddenly improves.  That’s simple, isn’t it.
