Selecting A Shipping Scale

Time is a valuable asset and if it’s wasted, it cannot be reclaimed. If you have packages to mail or ship, a good set of postage scales is a must. Let’s go shopping!  We need to look at the size of the weighing platform and maximum weight the postage scale can measure. Almost any postage scale can handle small documents weighing less than 2 lbs., but we may have an oversized or heavier package and we want to be prepared. We also want an easily-read display and the Tare feature to subtract a container weight when needed.

The Escali Granda digital scale is a high-end digital scale with a capacity of 220 lb / 100 kg with a wired remote display for easy reading. The over-sized stainless steel platform is designed especially for weighing large and heavy objects. It has the Tare feature to subtract a container’s weight and obtain the weight of its contents. This should solve our problem!

Take The Guesswork Out!

I need more money!  That’s a common statement these days!  Our economy has really taken a downturn and the upturn cannot come fast enough.  Many people have lost jobs through layoffs or company closings, others have lost a lot in the stock market, and prices have gradually gone up over the years for most products that we consider necessities.  We need to use our ingenuity to figure new ways to generate income.

Friends of mine make extra spending money by selling items on ebay.  It may be things they no longer use, or items found on clearance sales at unbelieveably low prices, or even handmade items.  One problem is estimating the shipping charges so they can be included in the price of the item.  A shipping scale can solve that problem.  Make a picture of the item for the webpage, then package it for shipping, weigh it, and figure the shipping charges.  That takes the guesswork out!

Scales Need To Be Precise

Numbers are very precise.  If you don’t believe me, reverse two numbers in a phone number and see if it works.  Or let the bank run a check through the bank as $425.32 when it was supposed to be $25.32.  Just one number can make a big difference!

Scales need to be precise, also.  Whether you’re measuring in grams, ounces, pounds, or pennyweights, you want the same item to weigh the same amount each time it is placed on the scales.  If it doesn’t, you can’t depend on the results, whether you’re cooking, measuring medicines, or weighing yourself.  Escali scales are accurate and precise.  Check them out.

Sometimes I do things the hard way.  I often fail to take advantage of the latest products and technology.  Sometimes I may not be familiar with the latest inventions, other times I may not want to spend the extra money to get the improved products.

I tried to weigh by dog by holding him while I stepped on the bathroom scales, then setting him aside and weighing without him.  I guess I could also weigh items I plan to ship by standing on the scale with and without the item.  However, if I have very many items to ship, I will gain time and peace of mind by purchasing a shipping scale.   If convenience is important to me, the cost will be worth it.

Dogs and Cats

We took our cat and chihuahua to the vet this morning for their annual check-up.  That’s always a lot of fun.  The cat is an indoor/outdoor cat that weighs almost 11 pounds and still has his claws.  We have to put him in a pet carrier and the vet has to be extremely quick to avoid those claws.  The chihuahua wants to see everyone, especially all the cats and dogs that come in while we wait, and he always manages to use the vet’s floor for a bathroom before I can stop him.  I guess he’s marking his territory.  Life is fun, isn’t it?

I’m always amazed at how proficient the vet and her staff are with these animals, and the love they show toward them.  Love goes a long way sometimes, toward getting cooperation.  They sat each of these animals on the scale and managed to weigh them without any fuss.  They gave both of them shots, and neither of them even whined.  The cat started getting a little antsy after that, but they had him back in the pet carrier before he could do any damage.  The chihuahua was still in a good mood when it was all over.  It’s nice to work with true professionals.

Looking Back Fifty Years

Electronics have totally changed our world!  It’s amazing to look back fifty years and see the differences between the appliances, telephones, television sets, computers, games, etc.  The first television I remember seeing had about a 10 inch round screen, and of course, it was in black and white.  Now we see 50 and 60 inch flatscreen television set in many homes, and of course, in true-life color.  The first computer I remember was at a university and filled a large room.  I had to input my data by typing, and holes were punched in a series of cards.  The cards ran through the computer to produce the results.  It took a long time to run any kind of program, and I needed to understand computer language (which I never mastered).  Now I’m sitting here typing on a laptop and can surf the internet to research anything that happens to be on my mind, without any knowledge of computer language.  Remember the old dial telephones.  It took a long time just to dial a number, then you were tied to the phone by a lengthy cord.  Now we all have a cell phone in our pocket or attached to our waist and we aren’t tied to anything.  Amazing!

Bathroom, kitchen, and shipping scales have been vastly improved, also.  Besides being electronic, they are also digital.  This gives a much more accurate and precise reading.  Electronic scales are everywhere–in the home, in the grocery store, in the labs, etc.  Toss out the old, put in the new!  Our world has changed!

Does anyone in today’s world only have one task to complete?  No, we all are “multitasking” everyday!  At work, most of us have many issues with which we are trying to deal, added to home and family responsibilities.  Technology helps in many instances, but if the computer,  cellphone, etc. is acting up, we’re really in trouble.

Sometimes a person may need scales that work for several applications.  They may need them in the kitchen, in a lab situation, or for a hobby purpose.  Multifunctional scales are available to eliminate the need to purchase several different kinds of scales.  Look at them and determine which ones can fulfill the needs you have in your home or workplace.

I think planning is very important.  I believe you save a lot of time by planning in advance.  I have a new great-granddaughter and I love babysitting her, but I need to know early so I can plan my other activities.  Her mom seems to “fly by the seat of her pants.”  I have told her that as soon as she gets her work schedule, she needs to let me know, so I can work around it.  I’m going to have to be unavailable one of these days so she will learn to listen to me.

If you are selling on ebay, you need to plan ahead to be certain that you include shipping charges somewhere.  Otherwise, you will lose money on many of your transactions.  If you’ll purchase a shipping scale, you can make your picture of the item for the website, then package it for shipping, weigh it to figure postage, then either include the cost in the price or add shipping costs.  This little bit of planning can save you lots of heartache later.

The internet is so powerful and, only a few years ago, we had never heard of it or even imagined that such a thing would ever exist.  It has some negative uses, but many positives, too.  Information on everything from health, disease, treatments, etc. to social networking can be found with the click of a mouse.  Of course, everything written on the internet is not necessarily true, so you have to verify the information.

Many people are making their living via the internet.  Others are using it as a source of a second income.  If you are considering selling items on the internet, you’ll save yourself a lot of trouble (and maybe money, too) by purchasing a postage scale to get an accurate estimate of what it will cost you to ship the item.  By knowing in advance the cost of shipping, you can set a price that will cover the shipping or add shipping costs accordingly.  Be smart!  Be prepared!
