Multitasking Scales
Author: upscaler
We hear a lot today about multitasking. As a working mom, we find ourselves trying to keep the house in order, keep the laundry done, keep the family fed, attend school functions, keep the family in church, etc. along with the responsibilities of our job. A person with a “one-track mind” is in serious trouble in today’s world.
Sometimes we can find a gadget or appliance, etc. that can also multitask. Multifunctional scales can weigh in ounces, pounds, grams, troy ounces, pennyweights, etc., and can help in kitchens, labs, hobbies or any number of activities. They are available in different sizes, colors and styles at www.holladaypartners.com
Sell Excess Jewelry and Feed Your Family
Author: upscaler
With today’s economy getting worse every day, many people are selling gold and silver jewelry that they no longer wear. I can’t do that since all of my jewelry burned in our house a few years back. However, it does seem logical that food and clothing are more important than jewelry that is never worn. Of course, some pieces are sentimental and will be handed down to children and grandchildren as keepsakes, but it may be surprising how much money can be made by selling off pieces that are not that meaningful to you.
If you are thinking of getting involved in buying and/or selling precious metals, you will need pennyweight scales. Precious metals are weighed by pennyweights and troy ounces rather than the pounds and ounces you use for most things in America today. You will find these scales at www.holladaypartners.com at the lowest prices ever.
Who Is Troy—-Ounce, That Is?
Author: upscaler
I’ve known a few men named Troy, but I didn’t know there was a system of measurement that used a troy ounce until recently. The troy ounce is about 10 percent more that the avoirdupois ounce (the one most of us use), and is the only ounce used in the pricing of precious metals such as gold, platinum and silver. It is also used to measure arrow and arrowhead weights in archery and bullets and powder weights in ballistics.
Many people don’t realize that an ounce of gold is weighed in a different weighing system from and ounce of sugar or flour. If you have a hobby or a job that calls for weighing precious metals or gunpowder, etc., you need to invest in some good troy-ounces scales. Holladay Partners has scales that weigh in many different increments at the lowest prices. Check us out!
Don’t Weigh Me In Pennyweights, Please!
Author: upscaler
Jewellers use the pennyweight in the calculations of precious metals. Also, dentists and dental labs use the pennweight to measure the precious metals used in dental crowns and onlays. I researched and found that the pennyweight is equal to 0.055 ounces, so I decided to try to determine how many pennyweights I weighed. I divided 0.055 into 16 ounces to see how many pennyweights were in a pound. This came to almost 291 pennyweights in a pound. Oh, me!
If you multiply my weight by 291, it’s easy to see it’s not going to look good. I think I’ll stick to pounds and ounces for my weight. However, if you’re dealing in precious metals instead of body weight, a set of pennyweight scales is a necessity.
Work On The Things We Can Control
Author: upscaler
Along with today’s economy woes comes a lot of stress for most of us. We are trying to deal with things that we cannot control such as the fall in the value of our retirement account. We need to concentrate on the things we can control to try to save money. For example, we can eat at home, buy only the things that we need, and look for the lowest prices on the things we have to purchase. Also, credit cards are convenient, but their interest rates are much too high. We should never buy things on a credit card unless we can pay the entire balance when the bill comes, saving all that interest. By keeping a tally on our savings, we can reduce our stress level.
Sometimes, the stress of not having the proper equipment needed to do our job can cause undue stress. If you work in a lab, you definitely need a professional lab scale. Holladay Partners offers a variety of lab scales at the lowest prices from which to choose and free shipping, too. Check them out. You’ll be glad you did!
School Labs Need Modern Equipment

I attended a very small country high school back in the late 1950s. I didn’t have the opportunity to take chemistry, but we did have biology. However, our science lab was not equipped for any experiments. On the first day of my biology class in college, the professor asked that everyone who had had high school biology raise their hand. I was afraid to raise my hand, because I knew that I had no background in biology. I was fortunate that the college professor taught the very basics and was patient with the students who had no prior knowledge of the subject matter.
It is difficult for schools to keep abreast of modern technology. By the time new computers are installed, they are out-of-date. Can you imagine using a lab scale that was purchased 20 or 30 years ago? Scales are now digital and electronic. The days of the old balance scales are gone. Not only do workplace labs need up-to-date technology, but students in school cannot be expected to compete in the global economy if trained on obsolete equipment.
I’m Not “A Golf Widow”!
Author: upscaler
My uncle played golf a lot and my mother always called his wife “a golf widow.” Every time we went to visit, his wife was at home and he was at the golf course (unless he was working). I knew as a child that I never wanted to be “a golf widow.” After I had been married a number of years, my husband started mentioning the fact that he would like to play golf. I didn’t worry at first because I didn’t think he was actually serious. However, after he retired he got some clubs and started playing a little golf. Since I knew I didn’t want to be “a golf widow,” there was only one thing left to do. I enrolled in a few golf lessons (so I would know how to grip the club), bought some clubs and joined him. My goal was to keep up with him on the golf course enough that he wouldn’t fuss about me being too slow. It didn’t take me long to figure out that if my ball didn’t go where I wanted it to, I could pick it up and move it. Who cared what my score was! I just didn’t want to be “a golf widow”.
Some things have to be a bit more precise than my golf scoring. If you work in a lab, you need accuracy. Your lab scales need to be precise, and measure in increments that are suited to the work accomplished in your lab.
What Is A Troy Ounce?
Author: upscaler
Most people today have probably never heard of troy ounces. However, the Troy weight system (named from Troyes in France where it was first adopted in Europe) is a very old system. It supposedly was brought to Europe from Cairo during the crusades. This weight system is primarily used for precious metals, black powder, and gemstones. The troy ounce is 480 grains, while the avoirdupois ounce is 437.5 grains. The grain is identical in both the troy and avoirdupois systems. Grains were long used in medicine, but have been largely replaced by milligrams.
If your business or hobby calls for measuring precious metals, (such as gold or silver) black powder, or gemstones, you will need a troy-ounces scale. These scales are precise measuring instruments that weigh in ounces, grams, troy-ounces, grains, penny-weights and carats.
Real Professionals Are Professional

It’s no fun to go to a doctor and hear the dreaded words, “I’m going to send you to the lab for some bloodwork.” That’s what I usually think of when I hear the word lab. However, there are many people who either work in labs of different kinds, or send samples to labs for testing. A professional lab could mean anything from a medical lab to a photo lab. In fact, a lab could even refer to a large dog.
Most professional labs need a set of professional lab scales. These scales can serve most any need since they weigh in grams, ounces, grains, carats, pennyweights and troy-ounces. They are highly accurate for situations where precision weighing is a must. The stainless steel removeable top makes clean-up easier, and the automatic shut-off helps conserve the batteries. The Tare feature allows you to subtract the weight of the container and the hold feature keeps the weight in the display area after the item has been removed from the scale. A professional lab needs professional lab scales to complete their work in a professional manner.
How Can I Divide An Ounce Into Grams?
Author: upscaler
When you read the labels on food products, you see that many of the ingredients are listed in grams. In fact, most standards and legal requirements for nutrition labels require the contents to be stated per 100 gram of the product, so that the resulting figure can also be read as a percentage. It takes 28.349523125 grams to make one ounce (avoirdupois) and 31.1034768 grams to make one troy ounce. Therefore, measuring in grams is more precise than measuring in ounces.
Many workplaces and/or hobbies require scales that can measure in smaller increments than ounces. A gram scale will be very helpful in these situations. These scales can weigh in ounces or grams. It would be impossible and frustrating to try to weigh your items or ingredients in ounces and then convert it to grams. Let the scales do your work for you. Save your time to do more worthwhile and enjoyable things!
